It was 14th September, the day before the ride. As usual, I feel a sense of restlessness that is difficult to ignore. The anticipation of embarking on a thrilling adventure, exploring new terrains, and pushing physical boundaries creates an undeniable excitement. Thoughts of the upcoming ride constantly occupy the mind; it was becoming difficult to focus on the office work. Came evening and a seemingly endless cycle of preparations and double-checking the gear was on, much to the amuse of wife and kids. The restlessness intensifies as one envisions the scenic routes, the challenges awaiting, and the sense of achievement that lies ahead. Every passing hour feels like a lifetime, ticking away slowly, until finally, the moment arrived.

At 4.00 AM in the morning of 15th September, I found myself in front of the Kun Big-Wing Adyar showroom, for, the ride was organized by Kun Honda, in association with The Knight Ryders. There, I was mixing along with 22 other riders who must have felt the same as I did. The actual group strength was 26, 3 riders would join enroute. We were about to set off on a thrilling journey filled with camaraderie, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable memories to the Mystic hills of Kanthalloor in Kerala, about 600 kms away from Chennai.

Unleashing the Spirit of Adventure:

As usual, the proceedings started with a briefing from our Captain Cool which included safety instructions, reiterating the hand signals, ride positions and the route we were to follow. The emphasis Knights give to the safety of riders is truly amazing and gives a confidence boost to all the riders. A small prayer followed, and we were all set for the ride.

As we kick-started our engines (of course you all know its push start) and hit the road the rhythmic thumping of the H’ness echoed in the relatively calm morning air, symbolizing the unity of our group and our shared passion for riding. We were fueled not only by the adrenaline rush but also by the anticipation of picturesque route, the winding paths and the verdant landscapes that lay ahead.

As the day grew older, the scorching hot climate had an undeniable effect on us riders, gradually wearing us down as we embarked on our adventure. However, taking frequent breaks allowed us to replenish our strength and rejuvenate our spirits before tackling each leg of the journey. A sumptuous lunch provided a much-needed source of strength, enabling us to keep going with a renewed determination.

We reached the destination by sunset. The stay was at a nice resort with tent like cottages. Everyone got refreshed quickly and got together for a post ride briefing by captain. This was followed with a fun filled evening around a campfire and ended with a satisfying dinner. The riders soon settled down to take a much-deserved rest.

The Lure of Mist and Rain:

The next day started with a visit to Kanthalloor waterfalls. The way to the falls was earthen with steep and rocky terrain, and the riders had a chance to test their off-roading skills. The trip also was an endorsement for the all-round capability of the H’ness, which most riders might not have experienced until then. The place was tranquil amidst the lush surroundings. Stepping into the water, I felt the coolness oozing through every pore. The sensation of water splashing surged through the body, washing away all worries and leaving behind pure rejuvenation. In that moment, surrounded by nature’s beauty, I felt grateful to able to experience such bliss.

After lunch we set out on a ride to Munnar about 50 kms from Kanthalloor. The road was full of twist and turns and through picturesque landscape filled with tea plantations. The misty and rainy weather added an extra dimension of thrill and enchantment to our journey. The mist gently caressed our faces, enveloping the entire landscape in a dreamy atmosphere. The incessant raindrops, though challenging, provided a refreshing coolness. With each twist and turn, nature revealed itself in all its vibrant glory, making the ride magical.

We reached back at the resort by sunset. A quick dinner followed, and the riders went to bed early, eager to catch some good sleep before the long ride back home the next morning.

The Unbreakable Bond of Brotherhood:

One of the undeniable highlights of ride was the bond and camaraderie that developed among the riders. Sharing a common love for motorcycles and adventure, we quickly became a close-knit family. Whether it was helping each other navigate tricky stretches of the road, offering a friendly hand or sharing laughter and stories over cups of steaming tea during breaks, the support and encouragement within our group were unwavering. We discovered an unbreakable bond, united by our shared experiences and passion.

Throughout our ride, one thing that truly stood out was the unwavering reliability of our Honda H’ness. They effortlessly powered through challenging terrains, exhilarating us with performance and dependability. From navigating steep uphill climbs to gliding smoothly along the winding roads, the H’ness demonstrated its mettle, ably supporting us as we explored the hidden gems of Kanthalloor. The combination of power, control, and comfort provided by these bikes is a testament to their exceptional quality.

As the sun sets and the ride concludes, a wave of melancholy washes over me. The playful banter and laughter, the shared moments of adrenaline-fueled excitement, they all become distant memories. The emptiness of returning to reality settles in, a stark contrast to the vibrant world I just left behind.

I dismount from my trusty steed, removing the helmet and the riding gear that had become my second skin. The engine’s thump begins to fade, merging with the symphony of everyday life. A sad feeling swell within me. But alas, reality calls, responsibilities loom, and the bittersweet realization sinks in that all good things must come to an end.

But I take solace in knowing that memories of the ride will forever be etched in my heart. It becomes a reminder of the joy and freedom that exists beyond the confines of everyday life. And as I bid farewell to the road, I eagerly await the next adventure, letting the anticipation fuel me until I can ride again.
