How to select your Riding Jacket.

Riding jackets are a critical part of your motorcycle gear.
Riding jackets are not just made for look or style; they are designed for a biker to add a style quotient as well as offer protection.

Most riding jackets made for motorcyclists have armour on the elbow and shoulder areas and foam padding or armour at the back. This was once quite bulky, but modern technology and materials have made it unobtrusive. These armour, C.E. rated 1 or 2 (or other standards) absorb most of the impact. The textile, mesh or leather used in these jackets is thick and abrasion resistant. So even when you slide, the textile will not easily tear off.

Adjusters at elbow, waist etc. would keep the jacket in place so injury is minimized. In typical Indian weather, mesh jackets provide ample ventilation so you will not drown in sweat and makes for a perfect companion for any kind of rides in the city or highways.

While owning a riding jacket is important, buying a good jacket can be tricky as it involves various factors like abrasion resistance, high absorption, and others.

Some basic guides to choose a perfect motorcycle jacket for your riding needs below.

** Safety Labelling: Check the safety labels before you buy your riding gear. Which will give you whether the jackets are tested for safety tests, include
impact-resistance, abrasion-resistance, and burst strength.

** Material : Jackets made from high-density textile jackets or mesh jackets are preferred.

** Liners: Liners are removable components of a riding jacket and the rider can choose to wear them depending on the weather. Can select separate rain and thermal liners for convenience.

** Armor: Armors are rated as CE level 1 and level 2. Level 2 armor offers better protection during a crash. Do check the back protector while buying riding jackets.

** Visibility: Always choose a riding jacket with florescent colours and reflective elements (especially on back).

** Venting: This is a crucial element while riding in most Indian habitats. Proper venting in riding jacket can help prevent excess sweating and even heat exhaustion during warm weather riding.

** Fit/Style : Sport/Street Fit and Touring Fit jackets are most commonly available in India.

No matter which riding jacket you choose, it is important that it fit correctly. A poorly fitting jacket can result in additional, unnecessary injuries if it rides up or moves out of position during a crash. A loose jacket can get caught on the road surface or on objects on the road, causing the rider to roll clumsily rather than glide on the road surface. To further protect the rider, many jackets include zippers and fasteners that attach the jackets to the pants providing even more safety in a crash.

You may select proper riding jacket as per your budget. Some suggestions of Level-2 jackets are listed in attached table.

The price mentioned may differ according to the store. Therefore, you may get the latest price from online or offline stores near to you. Apart from the listed jackets, there are many other brand / models available in market.
