Travelled on 24th – 26th June 2022 covering 390 kms from Chennai
I was eagerly waiting for my first overnight ride with The Knight Ryders group. The excitement started with formation of whatsapp group on 1st June 2022.
The Location
The Trip
The assembly point was Motel Jain off the highway in Poonamallee on 24 June 2022 at 4:00 AM. Everyone was so excited the previous day that the whatsapp group was buzzing with messages. The pre ride guidelines and itinerary were issued much in advance for people to familiarise with. I was so excited that I could hard sleep and waiting for the alarm to go off so that I can get on the bike and start riding. As expected, I got up even before the alarm went off and got ready for the trip.
I had co-ordinated with fellow rider Raj Pandian who stayed nearby so that we can reach the assembly point together. We started together from a near by location at 3:15 AM and reached the assembly point on time. At the early morning itself, people had already started assembling. After the ride briefing at exactly 4:30 AM, the riders geared up and started riding one after the another.
The early morning pleasant weather combined with the ‘Thud Thud Thud’ of 30 bikes was pleasant to the ears. It’s an indescribable feeling only riders will understand. Driving through early morning traffic and visibility in the highway was particularly challenging, however, for us it was a cake walk due to efficient guidance of the lead(s). After a short tea break, we reached our breakfast location, The Arya’s, where the riders could loosen and relax a bit along with a good sumptuous breakfast and a coffee.
At the second coffee break, we had a surprise planned. It was our Captain’s birthday and this was celebrated with the world’s smallest cake cutting There was no looking back after this, we reached the destination, Thally, as scheduled. The weather was so pleasant throughout the drive and I wish we could have driven till the horizon.
The Place
The stay was arranged in Rathnamala Eco Resorts faraway from city buzz and nestled in the middle of greenery, mango orchards and sugar cane fields.
It was excitement to see that the main “DODDAMANE” modelled in a traditional way with swing in the living room. The other rooms were wooden cottages with basic amenities like AC, TV, water heater etc. The entire resort was reserved for The Knight Ryders Group. The resort was lush with greenery, tree house and a huge mango orchard were really courteous and made all arrangements to make our stay comfortable. The food served was simple and good.
We had a nice power nap after lunch and got refreshed. We left for a nearby water fall for sightseeing. It was quite adventurous to go through the reserve forest areas to reach the waterfall.
In the evening, we celebrated our Captain’s birthday in a proper manner with cake cutting. The new riders were given a formal welcome and had a chance to share their experience with the group.
Day 2
The Next Day was full of activities and fun. After morning breakfast, we drove to Sangama, a place where Arakavathi River merges with River Kaveri. It was a pleasant morning ride with the bikes exhaust note resonating through the reserve forest areas. People enjoyed the dip in Sangama and spent a quality time enjoying the nature and the river. After spending a couple of hours, we drove back to the resort for the lunch.
In the evening, bon fire was lit up and people shared their personal stories and it was a good opportunity to know each other in a better way. After a beautiful session, we retired for the evening waiting to ride back to home.
Return
Time is the essence for the rides. As The Knight Ryders, we are always ready and punctual to gear up and ride. Once finishing the breakfast, we got a ‘gear up’ signal from the Captain, with utmost discipline
in a few minutes all riders were fully suited up and mounted on their bikes. The ride back home was
equally exciting with all of us reaching home around 6pm.
The Group
The Group is very professional group which gives importance to safety, time and discipline. Ramesh, the group Captain is really a captain kool. He ensures that everyone is motivated, excited and energised for the ride. Captain takes care of the first timers very well ensuring they are comfortable. The Lead(s) (Jagadeesh, Bart, Abbas), Sweep(s) (Captain, Jiju, Santosh) and Tail (Varadan) ensured the discipline, safety and integrity. They do their job with so much care to ensure the ride is enjoyable and safe for all including other motorists.
One thing I realised from the trip is that The Knight Ryders is not a biking group, it’s a family with mutual respect for the individuals.
Adios Amigos till next ride (HaKuNaMaTaTa)
